After a few weeks of respite, in February, a bill will return to the agenda of the Belgian Parliament. It is aimed at allowing abortion not only up to 18 weeks, as its promoteurs want us to believe but until the end of the pregnancy.
The bill states that :
- No one could be punished for practising an abortion beyond 18 weeks of pregnancy.
- Doctors would not be obliged to remind their patients about the different possibilites for the future new-born baby (adoption, etc).
- Doctors who do not want to practise an abortion will have to refer their patients to another doctor or to an abortion centre.
- Hospitals will no longer be allowed to forbid the practice of abortions on their premises.
- Those who would try to prevent a woman from getting an abortion could be sentenced to jail and condemned to pay a fine.
